New voices are always welcome to sing praises with the Chancel Choir. The choir sings during the Sunday worship services and on other special occasions. This group of men and women meet for practice every Wednesday at 7:00 pm at the church. (No practice during the summer).
Our Praise Team is composed of singers, guitarists, and pianist who use their talents in our Saturday contemporary services. This group meets for practice every Tuesday at 6:30 pm at the church.
This group prepares the altar for each worship service. They are responsible for arranging flowers, keeping vestments, vessels, and linens clean and neat. Each month a team of 2 or 3 is responsible for setting up before the service and cleaning up after each service. If you would like to be of service in this capacity, please contact the church office.
A lay reader is a person who likes to speak in public to read the appointed Bible readings during each worship service. We would welcome you to our lectern if you would like to be added to the rotation schedule.
The ushers greet visitors and members and hand out bulletins as they arrive at the church for the worship service. They perform a variety of other duties before and during the worship service. If you are interested in joining the rotation schedule, please contact the church office.
If you have young children, here is an opportunity for them to serve. Their duties are to light/extinguish the candles and hand out the offering plates. One or two acolytes are scheduled on a rotating basis.
This group meets on the 2nd Tuesday of the month to gather and implement ideas or programs to further God’s work.
Zion provides meals for the families who have had a member who has passed away.
Supervised basketball for youth. The gym is open each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings at the Luther Center.
Nursing Home Ministry
This mission is temporarily on hold. On the first Saturday of the month at 2:30 pm, we meet at Homestead I in Painesville, Ohio to hold a short service for the residents and sing hymns of praise. If you would like to join us, just come to Homestead I.
Come worship with us on Easter Sunday. Come early and join us in the Fellowship Hall (church basement) for breakfast. A free breakfast will be served before the service. For more information, contact the church office.
This dinner is a free community dinner given on Thanksgiving Day. Volunteers and donations are always welcome.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
This group meets Wednesday at 1:00 pm to knit or crochet prayer shawls to given to people for comfort in their time of need.
This is a community event that is usually held on the first Saturday in December. Fairport churches, schools, and businesses sell crafts, baked goods, and food during this event. This event at Zion is held in the church’s Fellowship Hall (church basement).
This group of women meet on the 2nd Thursday of each month for devotions and to work on mission projects.
Once a month, we visit members who are unable to join us for worship services. We meet on the second Tuesday of the month at 9:00 am. More people are most welcome. If you would like additional information on this rewarding experience, contact the church office.
In early spring, (usually March), Zion holds a Chinese Auction. To prepare for this big event, several people meet at the Luther Center each Monday beginning in January. There are a variety of activities performed to make this a successful event. New volunteers are most welcome to join this group.
A Christmas Bazaar is now held in combination with Harbor Holidays. Homemade items are for sale. Vendors can also reserve a table to sell their items. For more information on times and table fees, please contact the church office.
If you are 80 years old or older, you are welcome to join this fun group for fellowship. This group meets at various restaurants in the Lake County area on the last Tuesday of the month beginning at 1:00 pm. To learn the location of the next meeting, please contact the church office.
Every Sunday at 3:00 pm, this energetic group of people of all ages meets at Zion to take a leisurely walk through Fairport. In the winter, these walks take place at the Great Lakes Mall.
Nisu / Pasti Bake
Periodically, throughout the year, we have a group of enthusiastic bakers who get together to create some delicious nisu (Finnish sweet bread) or pastis (meat pies). If you would like to learn how to bake a nisu or make a pasti, come join us.
Our church began in 1891 and has a rich history. We are creating scrapbooks of our pictures and mementos. Several books have been completed, but there is still more to do. If you would like to join us, please contact the office for scheduled dates and times.
